An economically effective road accident data management and analysis platform - Integrated Road Accident Information Management and Data Analysis (iREADY) - is ready for rollout from the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC), Thiruvananthapuram.
With this indigenous platform for data entry of road accidents, the Kerala Police, Motor Vehicles Department (MVD), and the Public Works Department (PWD) can forego the independent systems they use at present to record the data relevant to each stakeholder.
Unique feature
Available both as a web-based application and mobile app, the unique feature of iREADY is the facility to provide a single point of accident data entry and generate stakeholder centric outputs for enhancing road safety.
The integrated platform provides a facility to consolidate and analyse data.
Integration with MoRTH’s Vahan and Sarathi helps to get the existing data of the vehicle, driver and the details need not be entered afresh.
Police personnel, being the prime investigator, can use iREADY app in a tablet or mobile phone. The accident record can be forwarded by the system to the Regional Transport Officer concerned.
MVD inspectors can record vehicle details and its condition and prepare the inspection report. PWD engineers can record observations regarding road geometrics and other road factors that lead to accidents.
Apart from recording observations and recommendations, the platform also probes the remedial measures taken based on the recommendations.
The app provides all the facilities of accident data collection from the spot, including automatic GPS tagging, photo/ video/ audio upload.
The app facilitates offline mode for data collection, which helps to record information even when Internet connectivity is not available.
Another highlight is the provision for crowdsourcing. The public can also report road accidents and upload photos and videos to the system. This will help law enforcers to get a first-hand information of the spot.
The platform also has a provision to integrate with the database of hospitals and get clinical data of casualties. For data analysis for planning and enhancing road safety, C-DAC will join hands with the National Transportation Planning and Research Centre.
“The off-the-shelf international software products available in the market attract huge licence costs with only limited customisation. iREADY is an indigenous and cost-effective substitute,” claims C-DAC. The software platform was demonstrated at the National Technology Day celebrations.
