INTUC backs CITU affiliate’s agitation

The Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC) has backed an agitation launched by an employees’ union affiliated to the Centre of Indian Trade Unions at Muthoot Finance, a non-banking finance major.

INTUC State president R. Chandrasekharan told the media here on Wednesday that the employees would have formed a trade union in the company to highlight their problems. “Instead of trying to suppress the agitation, the management should hold discussions with the employees and amicably sort out their problems,” he said.

Mr. Chandrasekharan said if the management had any apprehension about the current state of affairs in the company, it should discuss them at a platform involving trade union leaders and labour officials.

Three rounds of tripartite talks for ending the strike had failed to make any headway.

To meet union leaders

Mr. Chandrasekharan said he would hold a meeting with CITU State general secretary Elamaram Karim and AITUC State secretary K.P. Rajendran at Kochi on September 21 to discuss the issue.
