International standards for government schools

March 20, 2012 02:24 pm | Updated 02:24 pm IST - THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:

In keeping with an overall thrust in the direction of quality enhancement, the State Budget has made a major allocation of Rs.200 crore to be used over this Plan period for modernising government schools in the State to international standards.

This will be done by raising standards of academics and infrastructure, information technology, artistic and sporting talent, and life skills of students.

All classrooms in the State would be elevated to smart classrooms in phases. In 2012-13, one classroom in each school would be modernised.

An amount of Rs.10 crore had been earmarked for improving academic standards and infrastructure in vocational higher secondary schools and Rs.66 crore had been set aside on this count for the higher secondary sector. Government-recognised unaided schools for children with special needs would be shifted to the aided sector.
