An inland magazine in Malappuram is readying to enter into the Guinness World Records.

Innu published its 400th issue this month, not only making history in Malayalam publishing but also wowing the State’s literati. There is arguably no Malayalam writer who has not made contributions to Innu . Hardly any writer takes any payment.

The diligence of its editor, Manambur Rajanbabu, is ascribed to be the reason for its survival. Poet Rajanbabu has been publishing it since 1981. “No other inland magazine in the world has reached its 400th issue,” he said. Writer C. Radhakrishnan, who regularly contributes to the magazine, once described Innu as a launchpad for Malayalam writers. “I have never said no to any writer. Everyone is given importance,” said Mr. Rajanbabu. In fact, he has a stockpile of materials which can run the magazine for another five years. Innu has published 11 special editions in book form. Kavithakkudanna , Kathakkudanna and Onakkazhcha were hugely popular. The magazine had got the State government’s Malayalam Book Development Council Award for its sixth anniversary issue. The 400th issue has the contributions of three dozen writers, including M.T. Vasudevan Nair, O.N.V. Kurup, T. Padmanabhan, C. Radhakrishnan, Balachandran Chullikkad, Akbar Kakkattil, V. Madhusoodanan Nair, and Rafeek Ahamed. Anyone who sends postal stamps worth Rs.35 to the Editor, Innu Magazine, Malappuram, will get the magazine for a year.
