Infra projects to be shifted from Pookode: VC

January 14, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:56 am IST - POOKODE (WAYANAD DISTRICT):

The Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (KVASU) is planning to relocate the infrastructure development projects planned at its headquarters here to the other campuses of the university.

Speaking to the media here on Tuesday, Vice Chancellor B. Ashok said stay orders issued by the Kerala High Court and the National Green Tribunal had halted the infrastructure development activities on the Pookode campus of the university.

Moreover, the ‘laxity’ of the government to respond to directives of government agencies had also affected the prospects of the university, he said.

The southern regional office of the Ministry of Environment and Forests, Bangalore, had issued a directive to the State Additional Chief Secretary (Forest and Wildlife) on November 19 to stop all construction activities and seek clarifications, if any, in a month. But, the government was yet to give its response, he said. “The varsity is thinking of shifting its projects such as the academic blocks 1and II, international faculty guesthouse, women’s hostel, sports complex, and the central training institute envisaged on the Pookode campus to its other campuses, including the Thiruvazhamkunnu campus in Palakkad district, if the crisis continues,” he said. Such a move would hinder the development prospects of Wayanad district, including tribal development, Dr. Ashok said.
