Buoyed by the success of its online delivery of question papers for postgraduate examinations, Mahatma Gandhi University is extending the system to undergraduate courses as well.
According to officials, the university will introduce the online question paper system for its undergraduate examinations starting from the third semester of the credit-based semester system 2017 examinations, which are slated to begin on November 27. The examinations, to be held at 196 affiliated colleges, will be conducted in the afternoon sessions, from 1.30 p.m to 4.30 p.m.
Under the system, the question papers will be prepared from a question bank prepared by the varsity, which will be delivered to the colleges through the Square Question Paper Transmission System. The Principal of each college will be given a unique password to download the same prior to the start of the exams.
The colleges will be given adequate time to download and take the printouts of the question papers as per the number of students appearing for each exam.
“Since the questions are being selected from a bank, which will be updated every year, no questions will be repeated for a period of five years,’’ officials said.
Training programme
As part of rolling out the new system, the university here on Thursday conducted a training programme for teaching and non-teaching staff on the new system. MGU Vice Chancellor Sabu Thomas inaugurated the event. It was presided over by Syndicate member P.K. Padmakumar.
Speaking on the occasion, Syndicate member R. Pragash said the final trial of the online question paper system will be conducted on November 19, 22 and 24.
The new system is expected to cut down on the existing cumbersome processes involved in printing, packing and transporting question papers to hundreds of its exam centres.
