A private organisation which has been illegally occupying a government plot under the control of Sree Chithra Home at Kumarapuram Junction has been evicted, Minister for Health and Social Justice K.K. Shylaja has said.

According to a press release issued by the Minister’s office here on Saturday, an organisation called ‘Guild of Service’ had been illegally occupying the building and 20 cents of land in a 100-acre government land near the Kumarapuram junction, for the past 30 years. As per the government’s instructions, a team led by subcollector Imbashekhar carried out the eviction process and handed over the control of the building back to Sree Chithra Home.

Complaint to CM

Though eviction notices were served to Guild of Service several times in the past, they had refused to hand over control back to Sree Chithra home. Local people had submitted complaints to the Chief Minister about the activities of the organisation in the land that they have been illegally occupying. Following this, the tahasildar and village officer had visited the place in January 2018 and ordered cessation of all activities.

Patient care

But the organisation later made the building available for dance practice to private parties. Recently, they let out the building for temporary stay to 10 patients who had come for treatment at the Medical College Hospital and the Regional Cancer Centre, to prevent the government’s eviction move. Though the organisation has been evicted, the patients and their caregivers will be allowed to stay there. The Sree Chithra Home Superintendent has been given the responsibility of taking care of the food and accommodation of the radiation and chemotherapy of the patients and their caregivers.

The Minister said that the government plans to build a bigger facility to house a care home for girls from economically backward families and a temporary shelter for homeless mothers and children.
