Idukki to get two cancer treatment centres

Chief Minister Oommen Chandy has announced 11 projects, including two cancer care centres, for the overall development of Idukki district.

H e was speaking during his mass contact programme, ‘Karuthal-2015’, at the Newman College ground here on Saturday.

Cancer centres

The Chief Minister said the district lagged behind in health care and steps would be taken to develop Idukki Medical College. Two cancer treatment centres will be established at Thodupuzha and Cheruthoni. The Cheruthoni cancer care centre will be set up by the Idukki District Cooperative Bank. Water Resource Minister P.J. Joseph and Thodupuzha municipality will provide Rs. 15 lakh and Rs. 10 lakh respectively to set up the facility in Thodupuzha. The Department of Social Justice and Health Department will jointly formulate a project for providing health care to the differently-abled persons.

Title deeds

He said 18,173 title deeds would be distributed before August 15. A special team will be formed to settle the revenue related issues at Wagamon where there were anomalies in the survey numbers. A project will be evolved to correct the anomalies in the records and issue 3,000 title deeds before December.

The Edamalakkudy tribal grama panchayat will get Rs. 23.32 crore for its

development. The amount will be used for development of basic facilities of 2,637 tribal families. It will be implemented through a coordination committee of different departments.

The District Tourism Promotion Council will start various projects in association with the local bodies. “The ‘Clean Munnar project’ is part of this initiative and there will be a project for providing employment opportunities,” he said.

The estate lanes that are in a dilapidated condition would be renovated and fund would be earmarked for this, he said.

There will be five skill development centres based in different taluks

to provide training to the youth.

The Kuruthikulam-Cheruthony road via Velliyamattom will be included in a special scheme and a road through Neriamangalam, Karimban and Murickassery to Nedumkandam will be constructed.

The Chief Minister said three cents of land each would be provided to 8,673 persons under the Zero Landless (Citizens) Kerala Project.
