For skill development in new domains

The ICT Academy of Kerala (ICTAK) is gearing up to create a skill ecosystem in Kerala to drive job creation and industrial growth.

The academy has drawn up plans to attract trainees not just from Kerala but also from neighbouring States by setting up a skill hub, says CEO Santhosh Kurup.

“Many students who have completed graduation move out of the State, mostly to cities such as Bengaluru or Chennai to gain exposure to the skills that are demanded by industry. Our effort is to offer the same level of training at more affordable fees and with better incentives like scholarship,” Mr.Kurup said in an interaction with The Hindu.

The academy has plans to join hands with industry and engineering colleges to offer a variety of skill development programmes for job aspirants. “With the right kind of support from partners, we can bring down the expenses for training in new-age domains such as Artificial Intelligence or Machine Learning by as much as 70%,” he said.

The ICTAK has signed a memorandum of understanding with UiPath for a skilling programme in robotic process automation and is in talks with IBM for Internet of Things and robotics. It is also working with the State government on an Accelerated Blockchain Competency Development programme (ABCD).

Tie-up with KSUM

Besides, the academy is partnering with the Kerala Startup Mission (KSUM) to train students and equip them with employability skills in emerging technologies such as blockchain technology, augmented Reality, and optical networking.

The KSUM has opened a technology innovation centre at Kochi and is setting up centres of excellence in emerging areas. “By offering a cost-effective training programme for students, we hope to create a generation of industry-ready job aspirants,” says Mr.Kurup.
