‘I am for Alleppey’, a social media campaign launched last year to help the flood-hit Alappuzha district, has installed water purifiers in 100 schools in Kuttanad in the district.

The campaign, led by Alappuzha subcollector Krishna Teja, has set up purifiers with the support of the SUEZ Foundation.

Officials said here on Tuesday that the aim of the project was to provide clean drinking water to students. The students can also take potable water to their home in bottles. Besides, the ‘I am for Alleppey’ campaign has launched several initiatives to help the flood-hit. The ‘Donate a Cattle’ programme was started for the flood-hit dairy farmers of Kuttanad. Under the programme, all the farmers who lost cattle will be distributed cows. Many people have joined the campaign by donating money for rebuilding damaged hospitals, houses, anganwadis and other public institutions in the district. Officials said 5,000 kits containing kitchen utensils and other household items had been distributed to women-headed families as part of the campaign.

Another major initiative launched was ‘Green Rehabilitation’.
