With the monsoon season setting in, it is the beginning of troubled times for dwellers along the coastal areas of the district. Heavy waves lashed Karoor at Ambalapuzha, causing damage to a few houses on Friday.
People blocked the highway on Friday evening, protesting against the lackadaisical attitude of the authorities in adopting measures to prevent sea erosion. Traffic was disrupted for about two hours. The blockade was withdrawn after the official concerned reached the spot and pacified the people.
There had been a longstanding demand to protect the coast by strengthening the banks through stone walls and breakwater facility.
