Heavy rainfall warning till Friday

The formation of a low pressure area over the north Bay of Bengal is likely to result in an increase in rainfall activity over Kerala in the next few days. The India Meteorological Department has issued a heavy rainfall warning for Kerala for the next four to five days.

A special weather bulletin issued on Monday said the system was likely to become more marked during the next 48 hours, triggering rainfall in most places and heavy to very heavy and extremely heavy rainfall in isolated places in the State till August 9. Strong winds from the southwesterly direction qith speed reaching 40-50 kmph are likely along and off the Kerala coast. Fishermen are advised not to venture into the sea.

The weather office has issued red alerts indicating isolated extremely heavy rainfall for Idukki, Malappuram and Kozhikode districts on August 8. Orange alerts indicating heavy to very heavy rainfall are in place for Malappuram, Kozhikode and Kasaragod on August 6, Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Idukki, Malappuram, Kozhikode and Kannur on August 7, Thrissur, Kannur and Kasaragod on August 8 and Thrissur, Malappuram and Kozhikode on August 9.
