The Met Office has issued a heavy rainfall warning for Kerala till Saturday evening even as the deep depression over interior Tamil Nadu moved west-southwest, weakened into a depression and lay centred over central Kerala at 5.30 p.m. on Friday.
The system, a remnant of Cyclone Gaja, is very likely to move westwards and emerge into southeast Arabian Sea during the next 12 hours, a weather bulletin issued here said.
It has forecast rainfall at most places with heavy to very heavy and extremely heavy falls at isolated places over Kerala during the next 24 hours.
Strong wind, speed reaching 30-40 kmph gusting to 50 kmph is very likely along and off the Kerala coast till Sunday evening.
High waves in the range of 2.5 to 2.8 m are forecast along the Kerala coast from Pozhiyoor to Kasaragod till Sunday night.
Alert for fishers
Weathermen are keeping a keen watch on a cyclonic circulation over the Malay peninsula that is likely to develop into a low pressure area over the central part of the south Bay of Bengal by Sunday evening. Fishermen are advised not to venture into the central and southwest Bay areas till November 20.
Most parts of central and south Kerala received intermittent heavy showers on Friday. Landslips were reported from Idukki.
