The weather office has issued a heavy rainfall warning for 11 districts in Kerala for Saturday, indicating one more tough day for rescue teams battling to bring flood victims to safety.

A mid-day forecast issued by the Met Centre here said Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad and Kannur were most likely to experience heavy rainfall (7 to 11 cm in 24 hours).

Strong westerly winds speed reaching 35-45 kmph gusting upto 55 kmph are likely along the Kerala coast. Fishermen have been advised not to put out to sea.

The India Met Department had forecast a reduction in rainfall over Kerala from Sunday as the monsoon weather system in the Bay of Bengal moved inland on Friday. The current spell of rains is attributed to the persisting strong westerlies.

The southern districts, especially the flood-hit areas in Pathanamthitta, received widespread rain from Friday night hampering rescue work at several places.
