Health centres for endosulfan victims approved

The Health Department has approved programmes under the unified master plan package for relief and remediation of endosulfan victims in Kasaragod district.

The Rs. 136-crore package is funded by National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD)

Health Minister Adoor Prakash said in an official release here on Tuesday that 38 of the projects under the package approved by NABARD were to be taken up in the health sector.

These included construction of a hospital complex in Kallar grama panchayat which has one of the highest concentrations of endosulfan victims.

Community health centres will be built in Pullur-Periya and Cheruvathoor grama panchayats. The construction of inpatient blocks for the public health centres at Kanhangad and Panathady grama panchayat, new building for Neeleswaram taluk hospital and building of primary health centre in Belloor grama panchayat are also among works to be taken up under the package. A staff quarters will be built for community health centre at Mooliyar grama panchayat, the release said.
