HC moved for extension of Plus One application date

Writ plea by CBSE students of Islahia Public School, Kottakkal

A group of students from a Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) school at Kottakkal have approached the High Court on Friday seeking the court’s intervention not to close the application for the State higher secondary admissions before the announcement of the CBSE Class X results.

The State Higher Secondary Board has fixed the last date of May 18 for Plus One application. M. Ajil and Amna Kurunian, CBSE students of Islahia Public School, Kottakkal, demanded that the government should extend the last date in such a way as to facilitate CBSE students who want to apply.

Admitting the plea, the vacation bench of the High Court has sought the government opinion and posted the case to May 18.

Last year too, the government had allowed the CBSE students to apply by extending the last date of application following an order by a High Court division bench.

The CBSE declares the results of Class X and Class XII examinations usually towards the end of May. The early admission procedure being followed by the State government has been giving jitters to CBSE students aspiring to continue their higher secondary education in the State stream for the past many years.

Last year, nearly 1.45 lakh CBSE students in the State had joined the State higher secondary after their Class 10. No less number is expected from the CBSE to join the State Plus One stream this year too.

“We hope the government will consider the situation. If the government closes the last date to apply for Plus One admission before the CBSE declares its Class X results, tens of thousands of brilliant students will be denied higher education. We expect a fair deal from the government,” said M. Jouhar, general secretary of the Malappuram Sahodaya School Complex.
