The Kerala High Court on Thursday dismissed a petition seeking a CBI probe into the alleged killing of two Maoists at Unakkappapra region of the Karulai forests in Malappuram on November 24, 2016, in an encounter.

The petition was filed by P.A. Pouran, general secretary, People's Union for Civil Liberties, Manjeri. The petitioner said the police had not registered any case so far on a complaint filed by the petitioner.

In his complaint, it had been stated that two Maoists were really shot dead in a fake encounter. The police version was that the Maoists were killed in exchange of fire between the police and the Maoists.

The non-registration of an FIR against the police officers was in total violation of the guidelines issued by the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) and the Supreme Court in the encounter cases, the petitioner contended.
