TDB asked to foot the bill for reconstruction of Sabarimala, Pampa

The Kerala High Court on Monday sought the response of the government to a plea against its order directing the Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) to spend the amount for the restoration works at Sabarimala and Pampa from its own fund.

The petition, filed by the Travancore Devaswom Board Employees Front, said the income from Sabarimala was meant to meet the expenses of the temples under the board as well as the employees. The deposits of the board could not be utilised for any other purpose.

The petitioner pointed out that the TDB was not to be blamed for the damage caused to the Pampa river. The Irrigation Department and the KSEB failed in maintaining the water level at the Kakki dam. Therefore, the government directive to spend the funds of the TDB for reconstruction activities at Sabarimala and Pampa was illegal.
