Grief over Sukumari’s death

Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, Leader of the Opposition V.S. Achuthanandan, Speaker G. Karthikeyan, and leaders of various political parties and organisations have expressed grief at the death of actor Sukumari.

Sukumari, the Chief Minister said in a condolence message here on Tuesday, would be remembered for all times to come for her stellar performances in different roles. Sukumari, he said, was a real wonder in South Indian filmdom.

Mr. Achuthanandan said Sukumari’s death was a huge loss for Indian cinema. She had dedicated her entire life to cinema and left behind several unforgettable characters, he said.

In his condolence message, the Speaker termed Sukumari an amazing phenomenon who had acted with five generations and left behind a strong imprint with her histrionic capabilities.

Actor and Minister for Cinema K.B. Ganesh Kumar said that in Sukumari’s death Malayalam cinema had suffered an irreparable loss. Union Minister of State for Food and Consumer Affairs K.V. Thomas described Sukumari as an actor who conquered the film scene with her unique acting style.

Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee president Ramesh Chennithala said Sukumari would be remembered for the diversity of characters that she gave life to. Communist Party of India (CPI) State secretary Pannian Ravindran said Sukumari was an unforgettable acting genius.
