Govt to give infra projects a push

Twelve key projects have been identified by the government for execution to mark the second anniversary of the Left Democratic Front government.

Light Metro for Thiruvananthapuram and Kozhikode, bus rapid transit corridor from Erumaloor to Kodungaloor, Kochi-Coimbatore industrial corridor, value-added industries for rubber sector, and road corridors from the Kannur airport to rural areas in Kozhikode figure on the list.

The projects presented by Chief Secretary K.M. Abraham before Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Monday also include creation of infrastructure for the Vizhinjam deepwater seaport, Secretariat-Thampanoor skywalk, connectivity from NH 66 to Technopark and Technocity, zoological and botanical park in Wayanad and Munnar, strengthening transmission lines of KSEB, hydel tourism in and around Idukki dam, and renovation of canals in Alappuzha.

The projects will be examined and those to be executed will be identified, a communication from the Chief Minister’s office said.

Dr. Abraham made the presentation at a review of 114 projects of 38 departments, including 14 major ones, by the Chief Minister. The proposed virology institute of Kerala at the Life Science Park at Thonnakkal will commence in July 2018.
