Clear demands: T.C. Mathukutty, general secretary of Kerala NGO Union, inaugurates a protest held in front of the Raj Bhavan on Thursday against Union government policies.

Thousands of government employees took out a march to the Raj Bhavan here and other district headquarters on Thursday as part of a Statewide agitation by the Kerala NGO Union to press various demands and to “highlight the adverse social impact of the new economic policy and the communal agenda of the NDA government at the Centre.”

Nationwide agitation

Union leaders who addressed the dharna at various locations called for a nationwide agitation to press for the repeal of the Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA). They also urged the LDF government in Kerala to expedite steps to roll back the contributory pension scheme. Inaugurating the dharna, NGO Union general secretary T.C. Mathukutty exhorted the employees to back the LDF government’s move to create an alternative development model and resist the Centre’s denial of financial support for the State. District secretary K.P. Sunilkumar presided.
