Governor issues show-cause notice to MG University VC

December 25, 2013 02:22 am | Updated 02:22 am IST - KOTTAYAM:

Governor Nikhil Kumar has issued another show-cause notice to Mahatma Gandhi University (MGU) Vice-Chancellor (VC) A.V. George in a case accusing him of misrepresenting his qualification in the curriculum vitae.

This is the third time Mr. George was being asked to explain his position by the Chancellor. The first show-cause notice was regarding creation of 56 new posts and the second, on the controversy over the establishment of new off campuses.

The notice, issued on December 21, directed him to reply within seven days. The complaint made by the Higher Education Department accused the Vice-Chancellor of misrepresenting his qualification in the curriculum vitae he had submitted before the search committee appointed by the State government for finding an eligible candidate for the post of Vice-Chancellor at the university.

According to the allegation, he had submitted more than one biodata and had claimed that he was functioning as the head of the department of Environmental Sciences at the Central University at Kannur. He had also claimed that he had been with the Postgraduate Department of Geology at Christ College, Irinjalakkuda, for 30 years. The Higher Education Department had contested these claims and the report was submitted before the Governor for further action.

When contacted, the Vice-Chancellor said he had submitted three copies of his biodata to the three-member search panel. When he had originally submitted the application for the Vice-Chancellorship, he was working as the Head of the Department of Environmental Sciences at the Central University.

However, in November he had left the organisation on superannuation to rejoin his mother institution which was the formality for availing himself of the pension benefits. He was to rejoin the Central University after superannuation at the aided college where he was serving.

This information was added to the biodata by hand when submitted to the search committee.
