Gold ornaments worth over ₹11 cr seized from bus passengers

Gold ornaments weighing about 34.350 kgs and worth more than ₹11 crore were seized from six passengers of a private bus in the district early today.

Acting on a tip off, a team of excise department sleuths intercepted the bus, proceeding to Perinthalmanna in Malappuram district at 4.45a.m. at Tholpetti check post, an excise official said.

During the search, the gold ornaments worth more than ₹11 crore were found concealed in four bags, an excise official said.

The six passengers, all natives of Rajasthan have been handed over to sales tax officials in this connection, he said adding further investigation is on.
