Goa-based agency to guard Dileep

The actor hires the agency in the wake of public outrage against him

Perhaps the first for any actor in the Malayalam film industry, actor Dileep, currently in the eye of a storm over his alleged involvement in the abduction and sexual assault on a female actor, has hired men to guard him in public appearances.

Official sources said the security guards, based in Goa, reached the actor’s residence at Aluva on Friday in a move that indeed caught the local police by surprise. ‘‘The police had no clue when reports emerged about some armed personnel in convoy vehicles visiting the actor. Later, a Special Branch officer arrived at the actor’s house and collected the details,’’ sources said.

As per reports, the security agency has deployed three guards who will secure the actor from mobs on a round-the-clock basis.

Meanwhile, the Police Department is closely monitoring the latest move, the provocation of which reportedly comes in the wake of a public outrage against the actor. On Saturday, a police team in Kottarakara took two vehicles of the security agency into custody and later released them after a detailed inspection.

The new move comes even as the Special Investigation Team probing the case against Dileep is set to submit the supplementary chargesheet against him in the abduction case.
