Minister for Social Welfare and Panchayats M.K. Muneer has said the government will set up a Gender Park on the campus of the Government Children’s Home at Ramavarmapuram. It will be the third Gender Park in the State.

The Gender Park is an autonomous institution promoted by the Department of Social Justice to resolve gender inequity in development. Its objectives are to develop an exclusive space for work on women’s welfare, to undertake research and documentation of the history of the role of women in society, and to strengthen activities for women’s empowerment carried out by various departments and agencies.

The Minister was addressing a meeting to inaugurate Children’s Fest at the Children’s Home on Thursday. The festival has been revived after three years.

“The government will also start capacity development centres for inmates of children’s homes,” Mr. Muneer said.

Therambil Ramakrishnan, MLA, presided.

Corporation councillor M.C. Gracy, Social Welfare Director V.N. Jithendran, Regional Assistant Director M.S. Vasantha Kumari, Roshan Bijli, E.P. Kamaruddin and C.A. Rashid were present.

Around 1,000 inmates of 27 children’s homes across the State are participating in the three-day cultural festival.

Cooperation Minister C.N. Balakrishnan will address the valedictory function. Mayor Rajan Pallan will be the guest of honour.
