Ganesh Kumar visits NSS

K B Ganseh Kumar, Minister for Sports, Forests and Film, who is in the epicenter of a political storm over his differences of opinion with his father and chairman of the Kerala Congress (B), R Balakrishna Pillai, visited the Nair Service Society (NSS) headquarters on Thursday.

Senior NSS sources said it was a personal visit to exchange views with the NSS general secretary G Sukumaran Nair.

The visit, coming in the wake of the sharp schism within the party with Mr Pillai and Mr Kumuar pitted against each other, has attracted media attention as both have reposed their faith in the NSS leader for sorting out the issues. In fact Mr Nair had earlier intervened in the controversy. According to sources close to him, Mr Nair has close personal equations with both and the attempt was to sort out the issues between the ‘father and son’ at the personal level. However, this has not met with success.

On another level, the issue is one between the Minister and his party and it was up to the UDF to sort out that matter. The NSS had already informed the UDF leadership of the need to take the initiative to solve the issues. It was against this backdrop that the KC(B) came up with a strong stance against their Minister.

The leadership believes that the issues should be handled on two levels: One on the personal level between the father and son, in which they were ready to play a role. On the other hand they also point out that once such issues were resolved, it was the duty of Mr Kumar to function within the purview of the party leadership.
