October 09, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:43 am IST - ALAPPUZHA:

Vijaypal Singh Tomar, all India president of Kisan Morcha, has alleged corruption in fund utilisation under the Kuttanad package. Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, Mr. Tomar demanded a probe by a Central agency into the “misuse of funds.”

Works worth Rs.335 crore were implemented out of the package valued at Rs.1,840 crore. He said the State government had been lax in implementing the package. He said the officials involved in implementing the package should be held responsible for the lapses. He would submit a report to the Prime Minister, seeking his intervention. He said paddy procurement in Kerala was faulty, adding that the Maharashtra government was procuring sugarcane from farmers directly. The Kerala government could learn from Maharashtra and follow a similar pattern for procurement, he said.
