Pope Francis has decided to restore the administrative responsibilities of the Ernakulam-Angamaly Archdiocese to Cardinal George Alencherry as the term of Jacob Manathodath as Apostolic Administrator has ended, according to a press statement issued by Bishop Joseph Pamplany, chairman of the Syro-Malabar Media Commission, here on Thursday.

Bishop Manathodath will continue to head the Palakkad diocese.

His appointment as Apostolic Administrator in June last year was in the wake of controversies pertaining to land deals involving the Church.

However, based on a report and suggestions by Manathodath, the Pope has also removed Sebastian Adayanthrath and Jose Puthenveetil as auxiliary bishops of the Ernakulam-Angamaly Archdiocese.

The Synod of the Syro Malabar Church will take a decision on their new responsibilities.

The Pope also directed the Major Archbishop to give monthly budgets and all major documents pertaining to the maintenance of the moveable and immovable properties of the archdiocese to the permanent Synod.
