Says she has a right for compensation without any petition

Fousiya Hassan, the Maldivian national who was imprisoned in Kerala for over three years in the fake ISRO espionage case, is planning to move a court seeking compensation for her trauma.

Ms. Hassan, who was in Kozhikode to attend the Kerala Literature Festival, told reporters on Thursday that she had been encouraged to make the move after the victory of scientist Nambi Narayanan, one of the co-accused, who was granted compensation for the trauma he faced as part of the case.

She said that at her time in jail, she was tortured in various ways by the investigating team. She said that one of the officers of the Intelligence Bureau had threatened to rape her daughter if she did not admit to being a spy. “I survived only because of my mental strength. How can someone like me, who cannot even speak decent English be a spy?” she said.

Ms. Hassan said she would move a petition in the court through a lawyer. “My life was a living hell due to the case. My daughter’s education was disrupted,” she said and claimed that she had a right for compensation without any petition, especially since Mr. Narayanan was compensated.

“It was a political conspiracy by someone powerful to destroy someone else. I had no connection with either former police officer Raman Srivastava, Mr. Narayanan or Sashikumar,” she said.
