Four persons were killed and two injured in two train accidents near Kumaranalloor in the district on Tuesday. The police said the bodies of Sandhya, 39, of Nandikattu House in Ambalakavala, Kattappana, and her 12-year-old daughter, Vidya, were found near the Neelimangalam bridge.

Sandhya’s nine-year-old sons Abin and Aswin were found injured near the tracks. The police suspected the incident to be a case of suicide.

The incident came to light when local residents found the twins, who were bleeding profusely, around 6 a.m. They were rushed to the Kottayam Medical College Hospital. The bodies were later shifted to the hospital after the police completed the necessary proceedings. According to preliminary investigation, the woman and her children were seen in the locality late on Monday. It is believed that they might have jumped in front of a train bound for Ernakulam around 5.30 a.m. The police said the twins managed to escape from being hit by the train.

Sandhya is the wife of Biju, who hailed from Ponkunnam and had shifted to Kattappana two years ago. He is working in a petrol pump in Kuwait . Vidya was a Class VII student at St. George School in Kattappana. Abin and Aswin are Class II students at the same school.

During a search operation in the locality, the police found two bodies in the Meenachil river. The police said they could be migrant labourers. There was a possibility of them being knocked over by a passing train late on Sunday.
