The three-day national conference of the Folklore Society of South Indian Languages (FOSSILS) concluded at Thunchath Ezhuthachan Malayalam University at Vakkad, Tirur, on Sunday.
G. Gopakumar, Vice Chancellor of Central University, Kasaragod, was the chief guest at the valedictory function. H.M. Maheswaraiyya, Vice Chancellor of Karnataka Central University, presided.
Malayalam University Vice Chancellor K. Jayakumar, folklore experts Raghavan Payyanad, Yatindra Lakkanna, and Smita K. Nair spoke.
Dr. Gopakumar reminded the audiences that tradition and history could never be ignored or erased. Those working in the field of folklore were strengthening the traditions, he said. Folklore studies should be given more seriousness, he added.
About 250 delegates from different South Indian States attended the seminar, which witnessed the presentation of 100-odd technical papers on themes such as ‘folklore, a medium of transaction,’ ‘folklore and development,’ and ‘folklore and local history.’
