Fine arts society to host national music festival

Fine Arts Puraskaram to be presented to Mathangi Sathyamurthy

The Palghat Fine Arts Society, which has rendered yeoman service for the promotion of fine arts, dance, and classical and Kathakali music in its 58 years of existence, is hosting a week-long national music festival beginning October 25.

Eminent musicians, including T.M. Krishna, Vijaya Siva, Mathangi Sathyamurthy, and Mahathi, will be performing during the mega festival which will be attended by scores of music lovers. The programmes also include concerts by upcoming artistes like Vignesh Ishwar and Vedha Prakash.

Each day will be dedicated to the memory of renowned musicians of yesteryear like vocalist C.S. Krishna Iyer, Veena maestro K.S. Narayanaswamy, vocalists Puthukode Krishnamurthy and Vellinezhy Subbramania Bhagavathar, and mridangam maestro Puthukode Krishnan.

The Palghat Fine Arts Puraskaram, instituted by the society, will be presented to Sangeetha Vidhushi Mathangi Sathyamurthy as part of the festival. The award, comprising a cash prize and citation, will be presented by mridangam maestro Mannargudi Eswaran. The award is presented to one eminent musician every year.

All programmes will be held at the society’s auditorium at Tharekkad.
