The capital city was witness to a novel ‘Mother’s Day’ observance when around 25 aspiring artists staged an exhibition with the theme ‘Mother’ at the Kerala Lalithakala Akademi Gallery at the Vyloppilli Samskriti Bhavan on Sunday.

The artistes, all undergoing training at the TINT Academy of Art, had worked on the theme ‘Ente Amma’, with each frame bringing out the compassion, love and respect felt by the students for their mothers.

There was a portrait of a mother reading the Bhagavad Gita and another depicting a mother lighting a lamp, a frame that earned special appreciation from Aswathy Thirunal Gouri Lakshmi Bayi of the royal family of erstwhile Travancore, who inaugurated the event.

Fond memories

She was of the view that there was no need for designating a particular day as ‘Mother’s Day’ in the country since every child born in the country is taught that mother is even above God.

Ms. Lakshmi Bayi also recalled fondly the days she spent with her mother and the very special moments that they shared with each other.

Reflecting upon the follies she had unknowingly committed as a child, she said that there might be times when a mother turns out to be wrong or when one may not understand her dictates. What one should do on such occasions is to refrain from showing any form of anger towards her because she is the only person on earth who will never cause any injury to her child, Ms. Lakshmi Bayi said.
