District panchayat president D. Suresh Kumar on Wednesday released the district-level plan for the Navakeralam Action Plan at a function held at the district collectorate.

The action plan aims at taking up welfare-oriented and environment-friendly development activities with the help of local bodies.

The district-level training programme for the Smart Garbage mobile application, being implemented jointly by the Haritha Keralam Mission and Suchitwa Mission with the technical support of Keltron, was also inaugurated. Mr. Suresh Kumar said that the mobile application would help in ensuring that all non-biodegradable waste generated at houses and institutions were handed over through the respective local body's waste processing systems. In the first phase, training is being given to the Suchitwa Mission and Haritha Keralam Mission staff, block and municipal resource persons, Kudumbashree coordinators, Corporation Health Officer, health supervisors, Block General Extension officers and engineers at the block and municipality levels.

The application will be launched at the ward-level in local bodies after the second and third phases of training in municipalities, Corporations and panchayats.
