Directive to Collectors

The government on Thursday sent out a strong message to District Collectors, with Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan directing them to take stern and prompt action against encroachments on public property.

Addressing the annual conference of Collectors, Mr. Vijayan stressed the need to identify encroachments and remove them in time. He also called for steps to speed up the distribution of land for tribespeople and keep a close tab on the utilisation of the corpus fund for the purpose.

The Collectors were directed to focus on waste disposal with special attention to the centralised waste processing plants proposed to be set up. Mr. Vijayan also highlighted the need to set up facilities for septage treatment and disposal and ensure that drinking water sources were not polluted.

The meeting resolved to step up the construction of public toilets with the help of NGOs and other institutions and set up waste segregation facility for markets and other places generating large quantity of garbage.

Mr. Vijayan directed the Collectors to ensure maximum enrolment for the Awaaz insurance scheme for guest workers from other States.

Ministers A.K. Balan, Kadannappally Ramachandran, A.C. Moideen, K.K. Shylaja, J. Mercykutty Amma, C. Ravindranath and K.T. Jaleel, Chief Secretary Tom Jose, Secretaries and heads of departments were present.
