The Maradu municipal authorities have assured the residents that all safety measures will be in place during the demolition of the four illegal apartments.
The demolition will begin only after completing all safety precautions. The buildings will be razed either during the last week of December or first week of January.
Less than 10 seconds
The actual process of pulling down the structures using controlled implosion may take less than 10 seconds and its impact will be limited to a distance of two metres. However, people will be evacuated from a radius of 500 m as a precautionary step, informed Fort Kochi RDO Snehil Kumar Singh.
A ₹100-crore insurance coverage will be provided for houses and other buildings in the area. A session with the companies which won the bid for demolition and the team of experts would be held, Mr. Singh assured the residents.
Oil pipelines
The safety of the oil pipelines, drinking water supply lines and the power lines near the H2O Holy Faith would be ensured. The concerns raised by fishermen would be taken up with the State government, he said.
