Sheena, wife of slain jawan V.V. Vasanthakumar, breaks down when his mortal remains were brought to their house at Pookode in Wayanad on Saturday.

The body of jawan V.V. Vasanthakumar, who was among the 40 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel killed in a suicide terror attack at Pulwama in Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday, was cremated with military and State honours on the premises of his ancestral house at Mukkamkunnu, near Thrikkaipetta, in Wayanad on Saturday night.

There was a massive turnout of people at the Government Lower Primary School at Lakkidi where his body was kept for the public to pay homage.

The body was brought from the Kozhikode airport in an open military vehicle to his house near the Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University campus at Pookode around 6 p.m. Later, the body was taken to his ancestral home at Mukkomkunnu, nearly 25 km away from Lakkidi, for cremation. At the airport, the body was received by a 10-member CRPF team, led by M.J. Vijay, Principal of recruitment training centre of the CRPF at Perinhome in Kannur, on behalf of R.R. Bhatnagar, Director General, CRPF.

Vasanthakumar is survived by wife Sheena, daughter Anamika, and son Amardeep.
