A crack was detected on the railway track near the Kannur railway station here on Thursday. Two trains were delayed for some time while Railway workers repaired the crack.

Railway officials here said the crack was found by the loco pilot of the 16306 Kannur-Ernakulam Intercity Express when the train passed over it following the train’s departure from the station at 2.30 p.m.

The Railway authorities here said the crack could have caused derailment, had the train been running at a higher speed.

The crack was found on the track on the southern side of the railway station immediately after the bridge over the Thavakkara underpass.

Following the finding of the crack, the Intercity Express was halted till the damaged track was repaired.

The train was delayed for half-an-hour, the station officials said.

The Kannur-Kozhikode passenger train scheduled to leave at 2.45 p.m. was also delayed for one hour due to the repair works.
