CPI(M) winds up district meet in Kasaragod

The CommunistParty of India (Marxist) (CPIM) has wound up its three-day district conference, which began on Friday at Ambalathukara in Madikai panchayat in Kasaragod.

This was after a High Court interim order said not more than 50 people could attend public gatherings in the given scenario.

The CPI(M)‘s decision to hold the conference on Friday despite reports of a surge in the number of COVID-19 cases drew huge criticism from various quarters.

The decision of the District Collector Bhandari Swagat Ranveer Chand to revoke an order that imposed restrictions in view of the increasing COVID-19 case further added fuel to the fire. She was accused of helping the CPI(M) toconduct the district conference atMadikai panchayat, where the Test Positivity Rate (TPR) was reported to be 67.5%.

The Collector later clarified that the order was cancelledbased on the State government’s new guidelines that called for imposing restrictions based on number of hospitalisations rather than the TPR.

However, the High Court, which heard a petition filed against the Collector’s decision, passed the interim order limiting the number of people attending a public meeting to 50.
