The district unit of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) will participate in the pre-monsoon cleaning campaign being taken up as part of the Clean Kerala Drive.

According to V.N. Vasavan, district secretary, the party and the mass and class organisations affiliated to the party, has already commenced the preparations for the drive, which will be held on May 24. The special squads would be formed by May 20 at the ward level.

“There will be one squad for every 50 independent households and separate ones for cleaning the public places,” he said.

These squads would visit the households before May 24 and help them segregate the waste materials at home. The squads which will arrive at the houses on May 24, would collect plastic and biodegradable wastes in separate sacks.

While the biodegradable waste would be destroyed in designated spots, plastic and other no degradable waste would be brought to the centralised processing units making use of the options provided by Clean Kerala Co. Ltd.,” Mr. Vasavan said.

He said the party was taking up the pre monsoon cleaning up programme in the light of the increasing incidence of communicable diseases during the monsoon. The movement was started as a party programme on November 1, 2014.
