Slamming Prime Minister Narendra Modi's statement at Kollam connected to the Sabarimala issue, the CPI(M) Polit Bureau said that his comments are a direct assault on the Indian Constitution and the Supreme Court.

The Prime Minister had called the stand of the LDF Government on the Sabarimala issue as "shameful".

"He is admonishing an elected Government for implementing the judgement of the Supreme Court," the Polit Bureau said. The CPI(M) said that Mr. Modi spoke more like a RSS pracharak than the Prime Minister of India.

"His statement has dangerous implications for the future as it means that any Supreme Court judgement which does not suit the interests of the BJP and RSS will be defied and a Government seeking to implement it will be attacked by them," Polit Bureau said in a statement.

Calling it an "unprecedented situation", the CPI(M) said that all those who subscribe to the Constitution and secular democratic values will condemn the PM's stand on the issue.
