CPI warns against undermining Vigilance inquiries

May 21, 2011 09:02 pm | Updated 09:02 pm IST - THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:

CPI State Secretary C.K. Chandrappan said on Saturday that Chief Minister Oommen Chandy was misusing his powers to protect UDF Ministers and leaders facing corruption charges, and that would have serious consequences.

In a statement here, he said the government had been intervening to undermine the Vigilance inquires against Adoor Prakash, P.J. Joseph, and Mons Joseph.

The government had ordered reinvestigation of the Vigilance case against Mr. Prakash which was pending before the Vigilance Court in Kozhikode. The complainant in the case against Mr. Prakash was a Congress leader and hence no political motives could be attributed to the case.

Mr. Chandrappan said the UDF government had undermined the LDF Cabinet decision to institute a Vigilance inquiry against P.J. Joseph and Mons Joseph for irregularities in the payment of arbitration award in connection with the Thiruvananthapuram City Roads Improvement Project.

An inquiry was on against Minister T.M. Jacob on a directive of the Supreme Court.

He said the inclusion of tainted persons in the Ministry and moves to subvert investigations were a challenge to the people. The people should raise their voice against the undemocratic actions of the government that undermined the rule of law.
