A couple from Gujarat on a tour to Gavi were trampled to death by a wild elephant on Wednesday.

According to reports, the incident occurred around 12 noon when the couple along with four other tourists and three guides were on a trek in the forests through a cardamom plantation of the Kerala Forest Development Corporation (KFDC).

Bennichan Thomas, KFDC Managing Director, said the dead were identified as Bhupendra B.Raval, 52, and his wife Jagruthi B.Raval, 50, from Thalkej near Ahmedabad.

A guide attached to the KFDC, who witnessed the incident, told The Hindu that the couple along with two other pairs of tourists and three guides were walking along the trekking path near the Community Centre at Gavi. The tourists, enthused at the sight of three wild elephants, were reportedly clicking photographs when one of the elephants attacked them.
