Excise sleuths on Friday arrested Subhash (33), a resident of Thadavila Vadakkathil, Neduvathoor, and his wife Sindhu (29) on the charge of peddling ganja. The couple were taken into custody following a tip-off that they have been targeting school and college students. The arrest was made by a team led by Excise Circle Inspector Shyam Kumar.

Excise officials said Subhash and Sindhu used to take orders from the students and deliver the drug in their two-wheeler. After getting a tip-off, officials questioned two Two Plus students, both of them ganja users and from schools within corporation limits. The students said they got the drugs from an Ezhukone-based couple.

The students were asked to place an order and deliver it to Vellimanmukku where an excise team waited. Though the couple tried to flee the scene after seeing officials, they were chased and arrested.

On questioning the couple said they have been sourcing ganja from Tamil Nadu, transporting it to the district in trains. They sold it as small packets, each priced at ₹500. The officials also seized 100 small packets of ganja from the couple.
