Cong., LDF deceiving people: Rajnath

Says Centre always supported Kerala without any discrimination

Hitting out at the Congress and the Left Democratic Front (LDF), Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh has said that both the fronts have been deceiving the people for long and soon they will have to pay the price for their respective positions on the Sabarimala issue.

‘‘The Left ruled Tripura for 25 years without any break and then the people chose us. Just like Tripura, Kerala too has a history of political violence. That political violence should come to an end and if you elect the BJP we will protect not just BJP workers, but also the Congress and CPI(M) workers,’’ he said while addressing an NDA rally here on Saturday.

Mr. Singh said that despite Kerala lacking a single BJP representation in the Lok Sabha, the Centre had always supported the State without any discrimination. ‘‘Be it development, releasing of funds or crisis management, we stood with the State and did everything possible. We also picked a minister and an MP from Kerala,’’ he said.

Mentioning the amicus curiae report, he further said that the State government had failed in its duty. ‘‘According to the report, the flood is not a natural calamity, but a man-made disaster. It says that there has been serious lapses in dam management,’’ Mr. Singh said.

Slamming Congress president Rahul Gandhi for his ‘chowkidar chor hai’ slogan, Mr. Singh said India’s Prime Minister is not a chor (thief), but pure. ‘‘He is the cure to all the problems of the country and it is sure that he will become the Prime Minister once again,” Mr. Singh said.

He said that in a democracy the Prime Minister was not a person, but an institution and preserving the dignity of that institution was instrumental for the survival of democracy. “The Congress has promised to scrap the sedition law in their manifesto, but do the people of India want it? If the BJP comes to power we will strengthen the law and make sure that it is not misused,” Mr. Singh said.

Urging Kerala to give the BJP a chance to serve the people and implement the BJP-model development, he said: ‘‘Today we are the world’s sixth largest economy and will enter the top five slot very soon. We reached here from the ninth position in 2014 and we will be among the first three names by 2030.’’
