The Kerala State Commission for Protection of Child Rights has submitted a report to the government after visiting tea plantations in Peerumade. The report says that children in estate lines, especially girls, face various issues, including those pertaining to safety. Lack of basic facilities and pathetic conditions of the lines affect their health and mental growth. The commission wants all departments to inform it of the steps taken on its recommendations within two months. Commission chairperson Shobha Koshy and members K. Nazir and Meena C.K. had visited the plantations.

Sitting today

The commission will hold a sitting at the panchayat community hall, Munnar, on Thursday and receive complaints from children below the age 18 years.

It will seek suggestions from agencies working for the welfare of children and the public in the afternoon.
