Soulful strains of the Sarod against the backdrop of a parting day. Even though a kaleidoscope of dance and music is nothing new at the ongoing Nishagandhi festival, Friday promises to be a special day particularly for the fans of Sarod maestro Ustad Amjad Ali Khan.
The Ustad would be accompanied on stage by his children Ayan Ali Khan and Amaan Ali Khan. This is the first time that the Sarod maestro is playing along with his sons in Thiruvananthapuram.
It is believed that the Sarod — which is similar to the sitar — was devised by the ancestors of the Ustad.
The family has been enthralling listeners for six generations now. The concert would begin at 7.30 p.m.
This would be preceded by a kuchupudi performance by Payal Ramchandani. The danseuse is the recipient of the Nrithya Shree award and the Indira Gandhi Priyadarshini award.
She is an empanelled artist at Doordarshan and the Indian Council for Cultural Relations.
The performance would commence at 5.30 p.m.
