District Collector A. Kowsigan and officials inspecting the vacant land along the Asramam Link Road on Wednesday as part of identifying the land for accommodating the Kollam court complex.

District Collector A. Kowsigan has said the land housing the NGO quarters complex adjacent to the civil station will be taken over for constructing the proposed Kollam court complex only as a last resort.

Most of the courts in Kollam now function from the civil station complex.

Government employees’ associations have opposed the proposal.

Addressing a meeting of representatives of employees unions, Mr. Kowsigan said in case the land housing the NGO quarters had to be taken over for the court complex, a better accommodation would be ensured for the employees.

Various other locations were also under consideration for constructing the court complex. The vacant land west of the newly laid Asramam Link Road was one of the locations for the complex. After the meeting, Dr. Kowsigan along with revenue officers inspected the site. He said if the site was found ideal for housing the court complex, he would submit a report to the government.
