: District Collector S. Harikishore will lead a team of officials attached to various government departments to the tribal hamlet of Sayippinkuzhy in the forest areas of Seethathode on May 28.

The Collector’s visit to the tribal hamlet is in connection with the district administration’s tribal welfare scheme, ‘Ooril oru divasom’ (A day in the tribal hamlet).

The tribal hamlet in Seethathode houses 39 families of the Malampadaram tribe. The project has been envisaged to extend basic facilities to tribespeople camping in various backward colonies.

The project was first launched at the Avanippara tribal colony in Aruvappulam grama panchayat. A meeting chaired by Mr. Harikishore at the Collectorate conference hall here on Saturday reviewed various welfare measures undertaken at the Avanippara tribal colony.

The Agriculture Department has initiated a Rs.3 lakh project for promoting organic farming in the tribal colony. The department has also provided farming implements to the colony people.

The Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) will implement a Rs 1.5 crore project to reach electricity to the tribal colony. The Forest Department will provide a country boat to ferry people across the Achencoil river.

The Aruvappulam grama panchayat has already initiated steps to get a few cents of forest land to set up an anganwady at the Avanippara colony.

The Animal Husbandary Department would distribute goats and buffalos to 20 select tribesmen in the colony. The Health Department would conduct medical camp at the colony on every third Friday and distribute medicines free to all patients, the Collector said. The Social Justice Department will also launch the ‘Sneha-kiranom’ and ‘Aswasa-kiranom’ projects in the colony.

Mr. Harikishore said colony residents who had not yet received ration cards would be provided with ration cards immediately.

Deepa Sanoj, Aruvappulam panchayat president; Radhamony Karunakaran, Seethathode grama panchayat vice-president; Sabir Hussein, Kudumbasree Mission district co-ordinator, and Rajagopal Kartha, Animal Husbandry Department deputy director, attended the meeting.
