Public sector undertaking NORKA-Roots, in collaboration with an industrial group in Saudi Arabia, would be implementing a project to fund the return journey of Keralites released from jails in Gulf countries.

Chief Minister Oommen Chandy will inaugurate the ‘Swapana Safalyam’ project, which would also facilitate return of overseas Keralites who had lost their passports and other documents, here on Wednesday. Minister for Non-Resident Keralites Affairs K. C. Joseph will preside.

An official release said on Tuesday that the first air ticket for the return journey would be given to the family of Kallacherry Mathew who had been released from jail following the intervention of the Chief Minister. The Chief Minister had promised a scheme to facilitate return of people trapped in Gulf countries at the Non-resident Keralites’ meeting in 2011. Industrialist Siddique Ahmed is aiding the humanitarian scheme.
